From the City to the Desert—Tahmineh Monzavi
A social realist photographer travels to the Iranian coastal provinces of the Persian Gulf, including Sistan and Baluchistan, and the desert.
Tahmineh Monzavi
Tahmineh Monzavi is a photographer who lives and works in Tehran. Her photographs have been exhibited internationally and were recently featured in Women Defining Women in Contemporary Art of the Middle East, at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), a touring exhibition which will open in the Phoenix Art Museum in November. Her work was recently published in Espace Vital: Femmes Photographes Iraniennes edited by Anahita Ghabaian Etehadieh — soon to be published in English — and Iran 38, both published by Editions Textuel; A Self—Torn Apart published by Centre National des Arts Plastiques (CNAP) and Gallery Eric Dupont 2022; and 2022 Prix Pictet award book, Fire. Tahmineh is a film director and producer. Her “Grape Garden Alley” series from 2010-2012 developed into a feature length documentary film about a shelter for addicted women in Tehran. She also received international recognition with About the Salesman (2018), a film about a film which won two trophies for the Best Actor and Best Screenplay at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and the 2017 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
