Matt Broomfield

is a British freelance journalist, critic, translator, and poet, focused on the Kurdish issue. He has reported from Kurdistan for VICE, the Independent, and the New Statesman, along with critical essays for Unherd, Salvage, and the National Interest, among others. He spent three years living and working in Syrian Kurdistan as cofounder of the Rojava Information Center, the region’s top independent, English-language news source; as an award-winning poet, he published a collection of poetry (Brave little sternums: poems from Rojava) based on his time in the region; and as a fluent Kurdish speaker and translator, regularly appears in the Kurdish press as an analyst. He is the author of Hope Without Hope: Rojava and Revolutionary Commitment (AK Press, 2025).
