Tunisian Girl—a short on Lina Ben Mhenni

This film centers the life and impact of Tunisian blogger and freedom activist Lina Ben Mhenni.

Author of the popular blogA Tunisian Girl,” Lina Ben Mhenni rose to prominence during the Tunisian revolution in the spring of 2011, as she documented the Tunisian uprising that famously birthed the Arab Spring, a series of revolts throughout the Middle East and North Africa, which changed the world in profound ways.

Tunisian Girl (named after her blog) follows the inspirational and extraordinary life of this 32-year-old firebrand cyber activist, as she grapples with the unrealized promises of her country’s revolution, and her own, inner personal journey. Although Lina fought for democracy in the Middle East, she also fought to stay alive — she suffered from a life-threatening disease to which she finally succumbed in 2020 at the young age of 36. But she left behind a strong, feminist legacy of women still fighting for freedom and justice in increasingly dangerous times for them. This film is a testament to her perseverance, strength, struggles, and victories.
