Amie Williams
an American award-winning documentary filmmaker and journalist based in Athens, Greece. Her films have appeared on ARTE, PBS, CBC, HBO and Al Jazeera. Amie is also the co-founder of Global Girl Media, an international NGO that trains young women from underserved communities as digital activists, using the power of media to prioritize women’s stories and gender-lens reporting on current affairs. A recipient of the MacArthur International Peace Grant for her first film about youth and apartheid, Uncommon Ground, she also won the SONY/ Streisand Award for emerging women filmmakers. She has traveled to over twenty countries producing films, teaching workshops and advising for festivals. Her latest film Unfinished Journey follows three Afghan female politicians in exile. As a freelance journalist, her writing has appeared in The Huffington Post, Wall Street Journal, LA Times, Truth Dig, Moveon.org, Women’s ENews and Hyphen. Chosen as one of “Fifty Women Who Can Change Media and Entertainment by Take the Leadin 2020, she was also invited to do a Tedx talk on her work in Barcelona. Amie is a graduate of Yale University (B.A.) and UCLA (M.F.A Film Production) and is a member of Women in Film, Film Fatales, Women In Media and the Foreign Press Association.
