Diary Marif

is a Vancouver-based Kurdish writer and award-winning journalist born in Iraq. He holds a master’s degree in history. His work has appeared in national and international media outlets, including The Walrus, CBC Arts, New Canadian Media, Rabble.ca, The Amargi, and Culturico. Marif writes creative nonfiction about memory, war, displacement, and
identity, drawing on his experiences as a child of war. He has published widely on these themes and is a member of Voices in Exile and PEN Canada. He received an Honourable Mention for the 2022 Susan Crean Award for Nonfiction, was a 2025 recipient of the Yosef Wosk Vancouver Manuscript Intensive Fellowship, and received PEN Canada’s 2025 Marie-Ange Garrigue Prize.
