Special guest Sholeh Wolpé, poetry editor of The Markaz Review, presents The
Invisible Sun, Attar: A Guide for the Soul from Rumi’s Master. The book is an
inspiring introduction to one of the world’s most influential mystics, Attar, the
12th-century poet Rumi called his master. Poems selected and translated from
the Persian by Sholeh Wolpé.

And Jordan Elgrably, founder and editor-in-chief of
The Markaz Review, presents the new title The Best of The Markaz Review,
2020-2025, a sterling collection of essays, reviews, art, fiction and poetry from
the review’s first five years of publishing.

Sholeh Wolpé is an Iranian-born poet, playwright, and librettist. She has studied Attar’s
work for over a decade and has crafted the first accessible Attar collection in English with
The Invisible Sun. Her literary work includes seven collections of poetry, several plays,
five books of translations and three anthologies, as well as texts and librettos for choir
and opera. Her performances, solo or in collaboration with musicians and artists, have
been hailed by audiences as mesmerizing. She has lived in Iran, Trinidad, and United
Kingdom and presently divides her time between California and Barcelona. More at

Jordan Elgrably is a French, Moroccan and American writer and translator. His stories
and creative nonfiction have appeared in many anthologies and reviews, including
Apulée, Salmagundi, and the Paris Review. Editor-in-chief and founder of The Markaz
Review, he is the cofounder and former director of the Levantine Cultural Center/The
Markaz in Los Angeles (2001–2020). He is the editor of Stories From the Center of the
World: New Middle East Fiction (City Lights 2024), and co-editor with Malu Halasa
of Sumūd: a New Palestinian Reader (Seven Stories Press 2025).
