Mohamed El Metmari
is a Moroccan painter and “artivist” based in Larache, Morocco. He works as an English educator for the Moroccan Ministry of Education. Previously, he was an art teacher at D’art Elfen, an NGO he co-founded in his hometown to democratize access to art education.
As a painter, El Metmari specializes in traditional art forms, with a recent focus on oil painting. His work often explores themes of cultural identity and social issues. Some of his paintings are politically charged, using art as a form of resistance and activism. He believes that art can be a powerful antidote to authoritarianism.
He has participated in several collective exhibitions and is currently preparing for his first solo exhibition. In addition to being a painter, El Memtari is an independent writer on art, human rights, and politics. His articles, in both English and Arabic, have been featured on platforms such as Al Jazeera, Raseef22, and The New Arab.
