Farnaz Fatemi is an Iranian American poet, editor & writing teacher, and the 2023/24 Poet Laureate of Santa Cruz County (CA). She is a founding member of The Hive Poetry Collective, which presents a weekly radio show and podcast and hosts readings and poetry-related events; she was formerly a writing instructor at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her book, Sister Tongue زبان خواهر, was published in September 2022. It won the 2021 Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize, selected by Tracy K. Smith, and received a Starred Review from Publisher’s Weekly. Some of her work appears in Poem-a-Day (Poets.org),Tab Journal, Pedestal Review, Nowruz Journal, and Tupelo Quarterly and the anthologies Essential Voices: Poetry of Iran and its Diaspora and Halal If You Hear Me.
