Sumaira Akbarzada

Sumaira Akbarzada was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and raised in San Diego, California. She received her master’s from Yale University and will begin studying for her PhD in the fall of 2023. She visited Afghanistan in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and fell in love with the country’s culture, food, and cuisine. Ever since, she has focused on using social media to present a beautiful and more humane image of Afghanistan and its people. She is hoping to return to Afghanistan to work with public health initiatives for women.
