Jassem Ghazbanpour (b. 1963) is one of Iran’s best-known war photographers whose images have been published at home and in many international publications. He earned his BA in photography from Tehran University of Art in the mid–1980s, and went on to cover many of the region’s wars. In Iran, he photographs culture, art and architecture. His books include Chemical Massacre in Halabja; Sky and Earth: Tehran under Missile Attack;New Life — Old Structure; Iranian House; Iran from the Sky; The Splendor of Iran (three volumes); Bam, a photo report on the city before and after the earthquake; Contemporary Architecture of Iran: 75 years of public building experience, from 1921 to 1996, among many titles. He also provided the photographs for Martin Ling’s chapter in Splendors of Quran Calligraphy & Illumination. Ghazbanpour’s photographs have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, in Iran, Indonesia, Japan, France and Italy.
