Born in New York City and raised on Long Island, Doreen Metzner has spent four decades living in foreign cultures, in Spain, Brazil and in Belgium, traveling extensively in Europe and Latin America, and visiting Asia and North Africa. She studied Spanish and French Philology at Georgetown University, Spanish language and literature at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, European integration at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium and Economics at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the Madrid campuses of American University, Suffolk University and Endicott College she teaches courses on Spanish History and European Integration. She has published articles in publications such as New Europe and El País and is presently preparing a memoir on Spanish society in the early 1970s.
