A chain?<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>My Poem Will Not Save You<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\nRemember the toddler lying face down<br \/>\non the sand, and the waves gently receding<br \/>\nfrom his body as if a forgotten dream?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">My poem will not turn him onto his back<br \/>\nand lift him up<br \/>\nto his feet<br \/>\nso he can run<br \/>\ninto a familiar lap<br \/>\nlike before.<br \/>\nI am sorry<br \/>\nmy poem will not<br \/>\nblock the shells<br \/>\nwhen they fall<br \/>\nonto a sleeping town,<br \/>\nwill not stop the buildings<br \/>\nfrom collapsing<br \/>\naround their residents,<br \/>\nwill not pick up the broken-leg flower<br \/>\nfrom under the shrapnel,<br \/>\nwill not raise the dead.<br \/>\nMy poem will not defuse<br \/>\nthe bomb<br \/>\nin the public square.<br \/>\nIt will soon explode<br \/>\nwhere the girl insists<br \/>\nthat her father buy her gum.<br \/>\nMy poem will not rush them<br \/>\nto leave the place<br \/>\nand ride the car<br \/>\nthat will just miss the explosion.<br \/>\nMany mistakes in life<br \/>\nwill not be corrected by my poem.<br \/>\nQuestions will not be answered.<br \/>\nI am sorry<br \/>\nmy poem will not save you.<br \/>\nMy poem cannot return<br \/>\nall of your losses,<br \/>\nnot even some of them,<br \/>\nand those who went far away<br \/>\nmy poem won\u2019t know how to bring them back<br \/>\nto their lovers.<br \/>\nI am sorry.<br \/>\nI don\u2019t know why the birds<br \/>\nsing<br \/>\nduring their crossings<br \/>\nover our ruins.<br \/>\nTheir songs will not save us,<br \/>\nalthough, in the chilliest times,<br \/>\nthey keep us warm,<br
