Des programmes scolaires aux discours politiques, dans les m\u00e9dias et les conversations mondaines, Camus est partout le parangon d\u2019un humanisme abstrait qui a ceci de commode \u2013 et de suspect \u2013 qu\u2019il plait \u00e0 droite comme \u00e0 gauche. Peu de chercheurs se sont pench\u00e9s sur les contradictions du personnage comme le fait Olivier Gloag dans son ouvrage Oublier Camus<\/em> (La Fabrique, sept. 2023), \u00e0 partir d\u2019une relecture de Camus dans le texte \u2013 contradictions qui constituent pourtant la force motrice de l\u2019\u0153uvre camusienne, une cl\u00e9 de son \u00ab style \u00bb, et expliquent sa popularit\u00e9 actuelle.<\/p>\n

Olivier Gloag rappelle l\u2019attachement visc\u00e9ral de Camus au colonialisme et au mode de vie des colons qui traverse ses trois romans majeurs, L\u2019\u00c9tranger,<\/em> La Peste<\/em> et Le Premier Homme<\/em>. Il examine ses engagements politiques \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re de sa brouille avec Sartre : la tension entre r\u00e9volte et r\u00e9volution, son recours \u00e0 l\u2019absurde comme refus du cours de l\u2019Histoire, son anticommunisme et son d\u00e9ni de la lutte des peuples colonis\u00e9s. Il se penche enfin sur les r\u00e9cup\u00e9rations de Camus : l\u2019auteur le plus populaire en France et le Fran\u00e7ais le plus lu dans le monde est devenu un enjeu politique et id\u00e9ologique. L\u2019invocation d\u2019un Camus mythifi\u00e9 projette un reflet flatteur mais falsificateur de l\u2019histoire coloniale. C\u2019est ce Camus-l\u00e0 qu\u2019il faut oublier pour reconna\u00eetre les d\u00e9chirements d\u2019un \u00e9crivain tout aussi passionn\u00e9ment attach\u00e9 aux acquis sociaux du Front populaire qu\u2019\u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence fran\u00e7aise en Alg\u00e9rie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
