Since that first meal, I\u2019ve returned anytime I find myself near R\u00e9publique, but I\u2019ve also given Sizin\u2019s address and dined there with countless friends over the years. When I don\u2019t cook at home using the Lebanese products that my mother treats me to when she visits, coupled with items I can find in\u00a0\u201coriental\u201d<em>\u00a0<\/em>stores<em>\u00a0<\/em>on Boulevard Ornano, in my beloved\u00a018\u00e8me\u00a0arrondissement, I can find solace in the\u00a011\u00e8me.<\/p>\n<p>People usually go to &#8220;Tawlet Paris&#8221; for its indulgent Sunday brunch experience. How could they not, when the food and the\u00a0<em>3aj2a\u00a0<\/em>will easily transport you to\u00a0<em>Mar\u00a0Mikhail<\/em>\u00a0in Kamal Mouzawak\u2019s &#8220;Souk el Tayeb,&#8221;\u00a0simply making you forget that you are in Paris, on<em>\u00a0<\/em>rue de la Fontaine au roi<em>\u00a0<\/em>near the\u00a0Canal Saint-Martin? As for me, when I yearn for the soothing tastes of Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian meals, crafted with high quality products just like the ones from my\u00a0<em>teta<\/em>\u2019s fresh\u00a0<em>tabkhat<\/em>, I find comfort at their\u00a0<em>plat du jour\u00a0<\/em>for lunch on\u00a0weekdays. Each day highlights one of Lebanon\u2019s regional cuisines, whether it&#8217;s from the South, the mountains, the North or the Beqaa. I still fondly remember their\u00a0<em>kebbe b\u2019labaniyye<\/em>\u00a0from last spring, with its creamy\u00a0<em>laban<\/em>, fragrant rice and, obviously, those delightful\u00a0<em>kebbe<\/em>\u00a0balls.<\/p>\n<p>After the sun goes down, I head to &#8220;Dirty Lemon,&#8221; 24 Rue de la Folie M\u00e9ricourt, 75011 Paris, a Palestinian queer female-owned cocktail bar nestled between Saint Ambroise and Oberkampf. There, I indulge in a <em>gin smash<\/em>\u00a0cocktail, affectionately known in Lebanon as\u00a0<em>gin basil<\/em>. This blend perfectly balances the bold flavor of gin with savory, delicate notes of fresh basil. It pairs beautifully with a classic plate of fried\u00a0<em>halloum\u00a0<\/em>and its\u00a0vinaigrette, creating the most exquisite\u00a0<em>ap\u00e9ro\u00a0<\/em>experience. Before leaving, I always make sure to top it off with a friendly\u00a0<em>doudou<\/em>\u00a0shot. The first time I went there I wasn&#8217;t entirely sure what to order, and so the cook brought out a tiny sample of every dish they make (a limited number of excellent, homestyle stews) so that we could taste them and make a decision that way. Not that that made things any easier \u2014 everything was so good it was impossible to choose! His cooking is always inventive \u2014 a modern take on Lebanese cuisine, yet he stays as close as possible to traditional quality products and doesn\u2019t hesitate to research and reinvent recipes from villages that have been lost over time. His vegetarian pumpkin kibbeh with pomegranate seeds will have you dreaming about them until the next visit, as do his lightly fried fresh anchovies. His latest restaurant, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lesmotsetleciel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Les Mots et le ciel<\/a> (the words and the sky) is on an unlikely street off the beaten path and its name is testament to Karim\u2019s love for books which pepper the shelves \u2014 including several cookbooks that he wrote with Andr\u00e9e Malouf \u2014 around the tiny restaurant\u2019s walls. You\u2019ll also find top notch Lebanese products on the shelves: mind-blowing za\u2019atar, homemade pickled vegetables, or bottles of top-quality arak, wine, and olive oil. It&#8217;s unpretentious and the food is extraordinary: it is simply too hard for me to recommend any one of the mezze in particular. In a very different category, I&#8217;m also a fan of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lacantine.paris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Cantine de Belleville<\/a><em>.<\/em>\u00a0It&#8217;s not a &#8220;Middle Eastern\u00a0restaurant&#8221; per se and they serve mostly classic French dishes, but the managers are Kabyle, and they make couscous on the weekends.
