We\u2019re chuffed that TMR writer, friend and TMR championing aficionado, has released a new book. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/722131\/a-nearby-country-called-love-by-salar-abdoh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Nearby Country Called Love<\/a><\/em> is both a captivating window into contemporary Iran and a portrait of the parallel fates of a man and his country\u2014a man who acknowledges the sullen and rumbling baggage of history but then chooses to step past its violent inheritance.<\/p>\n<p>Salar Abdoh\u00a0will explore themes of translation, identity, and borders alongside yet another TMR contributor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aliyehataei.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aliyeh Ataei,<\/a> author of\u00a0<em>The Border of the Forgotten,<\/em>\u00a0which delves into the echoes of exile and the invisible wounds of war, writing in her native language. The program certainly aims to \u201cbe in conversation with the current political and social climate we face \u2013 with a special emphasis on Gazan and Sudanese voices \u2026 We also want to clarify that \u2018women\u2019 is inclusive of all female-identifying peoples and are committed to challenging restrictive, reductive and binary stereotypes.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BgPOKzj5rME&#038;amp;t=2s<\/p>\n<h4>Panel Discussion: Syria&#8217;s Forgotten Children<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Feb 28, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontlineclub.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frontline Club<\/a>, London \u2014<\/strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>\u00a0<a style=\"color: #008000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/bloodlines-syrias-forgotten-children-tickets-810413638007?aff=odeimcmailchimp&amp;mc_eid=245d8314ba&amp;mc_cid=ba6d8cdf23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more info<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>What began as an investigation into a missing boy in northeast Syria quickly became something much bigger for journalists Poonam Taneja and Jewan Abdi.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC reporters travelled to northeast Syria in 2022 to search for Salmaan, a young boy who went missing four years prior during the bombardment in the war against ISIS.<\/p>\n<p>During their investigation, Taneja and Abdi met a woman in a prison camp who claimed to have known Salmaan and his mother, offering insight on where to continue their search. It invites the dreams of the past to translate themselves into the present and into our collective social and political desires. Autostrad, a Jordanian Indie band formed in 2007, tackles stories of love, struggle, financial challenges, life on the street, and finding one\u2019s self in their music. Their song \u201cSay Palestine\u201d which they released two months ago with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCmAO1Vs4tAex6heMWyK3Bww\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@shadizaqtan<\/a> has already had over 18K views. The song, they write on their You Tube channel, is a call to disseminate Palestine\u2019s name, scribe it, document it, capture it, splash it, and speak about it. This exhibition presents key works from this period alongside a new series which explores themes of loss, memory and renewal.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition \u2013 the artist\u2019s largest to date \u2013 will include installation, sculpture, performance and works on paper. Born of Syrian parents in America and raised mainly in France, she didn\u2019t feel at home in Aleppo, Seattle, Paris, or London. She is a citizen of everywhere and nowhere. And like many journalists who\u2019ve covered wars and conflicts, she felt most at home on the ground reporting and in front of the camera.<\/p>\n<p>From the courts of Ottoman Empire sultans through the stories of the citizens from her home country and other places torn apart by unrest, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/w\/but-you-dont-look-arab-hala-gorani\/1143598739\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">But You Don\u2019t Look Arab<\/a> <\/em>combines Gorani\u2019s family history with rigorous reporting, and explaining the constant upheavals in the Middle East over the last century.<\/p>\n<p>Gorani was born in Seattle, WA in the U.S., raised in France, and split her time between London and CNN\u2019s headquarters in Atlanta during her anchoring career. She studied economics in the U.S. and is a graduate of Sciences Po in Paris. She lives in London with her husband and a cuddly cavalier spaniel named Louis.<\/p>\n<p>She will be interviewed by multi-award winning chief international correspondent based in London, Clarissa
